As we come towards the end of another week of lockdown, taking care of ourselves and others, we also reach an important milestone in history with the 75th anniversary of VE Day on Friday 8th May. We had plans to commemorate this event with the children and local community but due to the circumstances, unfortunately but understandably, we have had to call the activities, parties and singing off. We will just have to wait and see what the future brings and what opportunities may occur later on.
On the attached sheet there are web links for adults and children for exercise activities, VE Day commemorations and events, culture, learning something new, history and excitement (fancy seeing the elephants or swimming with sharks). There is also an opportunity for those children (and parents) who wish to tread the boards to see what the audience looks like from the stage view!
Please take a moment or preferably longer to think about the events of 75 years ago. The war was not yet over, the celebrations were for the European Theatre of operations; it would take another 4 months before we could celebrate the end of the fighting.
In 2 months time it will be another anniversary, this time commemorating 80 years since the start of the Battle of Britain; we will have to wait and see if we can all be together to remember that event.
Wishing you all the best for however you commemorate the VE Day anniversary and Bank Holiday weekend.
