School Uniform

All pupils are encouraged to wear and respect their school uniform as proud members of  Barker’s Lane Community School. We have an expectation of good standards of appropriate and tidy dress and personal presentation. The governors’ policy is that costs to parents are kept as reasonable as possible.

School uniform consists of:

Grey / black skirt / trousers; white blouse / shirt with school tie or white / pale blue polo shirt; royal blue cardigan / sweatshirt / jumper / hooded jacket

In Summer, there is an option for children to wear a blue and white check dress or  pale blue / white polo shirt and grey shorts if you so wish.

Footwear should be black / dark coloured low heeled shoes or plain black trainers please.

All items of school uniform are generally available from clothing retail outlets, including supermarkets.

RAM Leisure are able to supply items with the school logo if you so wish.  These are available on www.ourschoolwear.co.uk or please ask at the school office for details.

Uniform Recycling Scheme – We operate a school uniform recycling scheme. This not only supports with reduced costs of uniform but also extends the life of garments, encourages environmental sustainability and the wider benefits of this. The school office regularly advertise items of uniform available and sizes. Parents and carers are encouraged to donate any unwanted items of uniform to school for school to recycle for other families.

Financial support for families on lower incomes and qualify for certain benefits is available towards the cost of school uniform, sports kit, equipment and laptops / digital devices. More information is available on https://www.wrexham.gov.uk/service/pupil-development-grant-pdg

Full information about school uniform and appearance is available in the school prospectus.

Anti-Bullying Guidance

We expect high standards of behaviour at all times at Barker’s Lane. If at anytime, you are concerned / worried that your child may be being bullied, please contact school directly to discuss this. Emotions can often run high where a concern around bullying occurs, therefore we would advise that parents DO NOT approach other parents directly.  Please talk to your child’s teacher in the first instance who will advise you of procedures that school follow which can be found in our policy: Anti-Bullying Policy

The dinners are cooked in school by Mrs Harrison who has received 5 Stars from Wrexham CBC Environmental Services for food hygiene.  There is a two week rolling menu.

Welsh Government fund school meals for various age groups. Full information about this will be provided by school as this is rolled out.

School meals are booked via an online app called ParentPay. You will receive a unique link for your child when they start school.

Healthy Schools

Our school ethos is based on promoting children’s physical and emotional health and well-being in a safe environment, creating a learning climate where children can reach their full potential. This relates to all aspects of health – healthy mind, body and lifestyle.

We have achieved the ‘Healthy School’ award year on year, achieving our tenth successive award in 2014.

Children are encouraged to drink water throughout the day and to bring a healthy snack for break time.

Internet Safety

All children are expected to follow our ‘Safe Use of the Internet Rules’ when connecting to the internet in school. Our Police Liaison Officer talks to the children about safe use of the internet. If you would like further information please contact school. The Child Exploitation and Online Protection website is a very good source of information.

If you have something to say..

From time to time as a parent you may not be happy with something at school. The best way to resolve any concerns / worries is to talk to us. We value our strong home-school partnership and are happy to discuss any matters.

The first person to approach is always your child’s class teacher, most worries / concerns can be dealt with in this way. If unresolved, please talk / write to Mrs Edwards, the Headteacher. Rarely do any concerns / worries go beyond this stage but if you are still unhappy you can raise your complaint with our governing body Complaints Committee.

Our complaints procedure is explained in our advice sheet ‘I have something to say to the school‘ which is housed in the foyer.
