Despite understanding why schools have been re-purposed in these unprecedented times, this period will be difficult for many children and adults, both those working from home with families and for those children of key workers who are coming into school.
Teachers at Barker’s Lane have provided a menu of activities to support your child/ren to continue practising and consolidating their learning at home. For the younger children, these have mainly been shared on Seesaw and for older children, in addition through their Hwb learning platform and Google Classroom. From week beginning 20th April until schools re-open fully to pupils, new updates will be provided by class teachers.
There is also a page on Safeguarding and Support in the Parents Section, this has important information about digital safety, mental health, safeguarding all children and support for domestic violence.
Welsh Government have produced guidance and support for parents on Hwb in the Parents / Carers section. This includes information about accessing learning, supporting and staying safe online.
Please also look out for updates on the school app and news section of the website. We will be sharing regular updates for families in this way.
These are challenging times for all, as parents, please do not feel that you have to try and replicate a school day. Many of you many still be working and trying to balance childcare. There will much learning going on in your household through practical tasks that you might involve your child in.
It is vitally important to look after your own and your child’s mental health and wellbeing. Many restrictions have been placed on what we consider ‘normal life’, please don’t feel guilty for taking time out to relax and recharge the batteries.
Hafan Cymru have produced activity packs and support with wellbeing and resilience for children and young people of all ages from ‘below 4 yrs old’ to ‘over 14’. These can be accessed here.
Your child may be asking questions which are difficult to answer. There is lots of advice and support for health and wellbeing at Parent Zone

Many other sites are offering free access to parents for support, one which has a wealth of resources is Twinkl. You may recognise some of the activities as teachers may also use this site.
